David Franz 'Plane Turning Right' blend 2013, Barossa Valley, Australia

Regular price £27.00 Sale

Our View:

An outstanding wine from a highly regarded producer. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot intertwine to produce a superb aromatic wine with complexity, intense flavour and an exceptional finish that the winemaker himself describes as “yummy”. Who are we to argue!

A must try wine. We were extremely impressed when we tasted it and had to include it in our collection. Only 3,700 bottles of this vintage produced.

The Wine:

David Franz is the son of winemaking great, Peter Lehmann. After spending some time in the great wine regions of the world, David returned to his native Barossa to toil the fields. Like his father, David firmly believes great wine is made when you see the wine through the whole process, from vine to bottle, starting at pruning. His extreme knowledge and passion combined with having Carte Blanche over 75 acres of prime vineyard results in wines of stunning quality. This wine is a blend of 47% Petit Verdot grown on Moppa Block, 37% Merlot from the Stelzer Road Block and 16% Cabernet Sauvignon from the Horse Paddock Block. Only 3,700 bottles made.

Tasting Note:

Vermilion lips promises of kisses to follow. Lovely cherry fruit with a back drop of tobacco. Vibrant cassis and savory liquorice. Rich mid palate with gentle warmth and fine tannins; stunning length.

What the critics say:

The Wine Advocate: “I continue to be impressed with the sprawling yet wonderfully creative line-up of wines produced by Peter Lehmann's son, David Lehmann, A.K.A. David Franz. This young, artistically inclined winemaking talent is one of a burgeoning group of winemakers challenging the preconceptions of the Barossa, while not forgetting his roots. I can't recommend these wines highly enough!”
