Loveblock Sauvignon Blanc 2019, Marlborough, New Zealand

Regular price £19.00 Sale

Our View:

Another well regarded wine from renowned producers Kim and Erica Crawford. This is a Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc offering lovely fruit flavours, with delicate classic background grassy notes. The wine is medium bodied, giving a lovely mouthfeel, beautifully refreshing and the finish is long.

This is a superb white wine, great with subtley flavoured Asian dishes, fish, chicken and seafood, or on its own! This wine is certainly ready for drinking now but will also develop over 5-7 years.

The Wine:

Perched high on the hills overlooking Marlborough’s Awatere Valley, Loveblock is far removed from the agricultural bustle in the valley below. From here you can almost see the end of the planet; the peace lifts you above your troubles. Loveblock are charged with creating the best wine they can to express this extraordinary place and its unique aspect. Kim and Erica Crawford follow their deeply held belief in low intervention farming which enables the wine to show its true and naked terroir.

“New Zealand’s signature varietal tends to be bold and big. We are interested in texture and mouth-feel, rather than enhanced aromatics. To achieve this, a small portion of the wine goes through natural and malolactic fermentation, cutting the sharp edge off the palate. The grapes are from the Loveblock vineyard, consisting of two distinctly different soil types and allowing a blend of flavours. We want to make a more constrained wine, the unique aspect of the vineyard allows for minerality and a broad spectrum of flavours”.

Organic status: Certified organic – BioGro #5266.
Sustainable status: Certified sustainable – Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand.

Tasting Note:

Appearance: Water white with a hint of green and gold.
Aroma: Lifted aromatics of canned peaches, pineapple and elderflower.
Palate: Rockmelon, Cape gooseberry and crushed sweet meadow grass. Distinctly Sauvignon Blanc finish, with linear acidity balanced by creamy mouthfeel.
Food match: Oysters, seafood, pasta and chicken.

What the critics say:

While the perfume that lingers out of the glass shows in classic aromas of gooseberry and white grapefruit, this alluring white is more lyrical and less edgy than most New Zealand Sauv Blancs. Additional scents and flavors of white flowers and honeyed pineapple are melodious in a lean body - thanks to a great acidity. Lemongrass offers a nice ride to the finish. The Tasting Panel 92 points (2017 vintage)

Loveblock is the label of Erica and Kim Crawford, former owners of one of New Zealand's most famous labels. Their latest Sauvignon Blanc from organically grown fruit displays subtlety and complexity. The nose is a soft synthesis of peach, cantaloupe, lemon-lime, watermelon rind and warm stone minerality, while the palate is all about texture. It's tight, structured and chalky, with prickly acidity and a long citrus and mineral finish. Drink now with an array of seafood and cold salad dishes. Wine Enthusiast 92 points (2017 vintage)
