Our View:

This refreshing and crisp Vermentino has citrus and tropical fruit flavours with a refreshing acidity, making it perfect to enjoy on its own or with fish and seafood.

Produced by the well known Antonella Corda, this example is certainly a step up in quality from the run of the mill and is a great choice for a warm summer's day.

The Wine:

Antonella Corda, the granddaughter of the famed viticulturalist Antonio Argiolas, founded her winery in 2010 after finishing her masters in viticulture and winemaking at the prestigious Edmund Mach Foundation in Italy.

Antonio, who lived to the age of 104, left Antonella two of his prized vineyards, located around the village of Serdiana, a few kilometres north of Cagliari.

Antonella's approach blends a proud, century-old family tradition of winemaking with ambition and innovation. he mild climate, water availability and the rich calcareous soils here give the wines a unique character and a signature freshness. Antonella follows a sustainable approach and the vineyards are farmed organically.

The fruits for this wine come from the Mitza Manna vineyard - a seven hectares vineyard 200 meters above sea level. The soil here is marly limestone which helps maintaining freshness and the delicate aromas of Vermentino. The Mistral wind from the mediterranean sea has a favourable influence here by lowering the temperature.

All grapes were hand picked and after a period of pre-fermentation maceration and soft pressing, the grapes were fermented in stainless-steel tanks. The wine was then aged in stainless steel before bottling.

Tasting Note:

The nose is fragrant and intense with aromas of peach and tropical fruit with aromatic hints of sage and capers. The aromas carry on to the palate where the refreshing acidity brightens the wine. The finish is long and lingering.

What the critics say:

90 Points -

"Buying Vermentino can be a leap of faith, as many are insipid and neutral. Not this one, however – steel aged for six months on its own yeasts, there’s a good weight here, with citrus notes and attractive salinity. The Mistral wind helps preserve acidity and freshness".
