Our View:

Pinot Noir from New Zealand never fails to impress and this example from Kevin Judd is no exception. Classic red and black fruits and complex aromas give this wine a finesse and elegance that can't help but provide pleasure to the drinker.

Wine critics are rightly impressed by this wine and it is a must try! 

The Wine:

Greywacke wines were created in 2009 by Kevin Judd who was originally chief winemaker at Cloudy Bay from its inception for 25 years. The rounded river stones, widely found in the soils of the vineyards in Marlborough, is a sedimentary rock known as greywacke to which this wine takes its name. 

All grapes for this wine were grown in Marlborough’s Southern Valleys and principally sourced from the Yarrum Vineyard, situated on the Brancott/Ben Morven ridge.  

The grapes were hand-harvested and chilled overnight prior to hand sorting. As part of wine making, this wine were aged for 16 months in the barrel prior to bottling.

Tasting Note:

A seductive combination of blackberries, blueberries and sweet black plums intermingled with roasted chestnuts, cloves and dark tobacco – rich and exotic with hints of lavender and rose petal. A highly perfumed, aromatic style of Marlborough pinot with opulent fruit sweetness and a delicate smoky infusion. The palate is generous with ripe fruit, fine tannins and a delicious spicy finish.
