Our View:
Ca'Marcanda's flagship wine. Made only in exceptional years in small quantities from the coveted terre bianche soils which produce long lived mythical wines.
A nose with flowery, red fruit and root notes, typical of the Mediterranean scrub. The taste is rounded, with a dense texture and a remarkable mineral character. Lingering finish with smooth tannins.
The Wine:
The grapes are grown in vineyards planted on white soil which is rich in limestone, firm clay and stones. The two varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, are fermented and macerated separately for around 15 days. After 12 months of ageing in oak and further 6 months in concrete vessels, they are blended and aged for several months in the bottle before being released.
Tasting Note:
Ruby red in color with garnet shades. The nose is generous with intense aromas of aromatic herbs, cinnamon, myrtle and graphite. On the palate is fruit driven with evident notes of cherry, raspberry and blood orange. The fine-grained tannins balance the acidity and lead to a wine with a considerable volume on the palate. The finish is lingering and elegantly saline.

What the critics say:
Robert Parker - Wine Advocate - 97 points
"This is a gorgeous vintage that continues to flesh out beautifully. I added an extra point to my score since the last time I tasted the 2019 Bolgheri Rosso Camarcanda in order to underline the great potential of this vintage. This wine could legally be a Bolgheri Superiore, but Angelo Gaja prefers not to use qualifying wine terms such as Superiore, Classico or Riserva in his various wine projects spanning from Piedmont to Tuscany to Etna. Semantics aside, this is a gorgeous wine—one of the best made at Ca' Marcanda for sure—with impressive intensity and balance. Dark fruit and blackberry are contrasted against spice, tobacco, grilled rosemary and Mediterranean bramble".

"This verges on thick yet remains balanced and vibrant, courtesy of the lively acidity. Boasts blackberry, dark plum and blueberry flavors framed by tar and toasty oak. The finish is both dense and clean, with a hint of licorice. Excellent length and potential. Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2024 through 2038".
